Kauffman Issues Statement on Governor’s Budget Address
February 4, 2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) issued the following statement in reaction to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget address today in Harrisburg. The governor is proposing a state budget of $51.5 billion, which would be a 7.5% increase over the current fiscal year budget.
“Unfortunately, the governor’s budget proposal as laid out to the Legislature today spends well beyond the means of the state. In fact, when looking at the details, the governor is proposing to continue his pattern of unsustainable spending that he is hoping to cover through more taxes and draining down our state surplus.
“We simply cannot continue down this path of spending more than we have. Our economy is not keeping pace with the many increases the governor is proposing. That means, in the years ahead, we will need to raise taxes to cover our costs.
“That is simply not something I want to see happen.
“Thankfully, today’s budget proposal is simply a starting point, and negotiations will take place until the plan is at a point that both the House of Representatives and Senate, along with the governor, can agree.
The deadline for adoption of 2025-26 state budget is June 30. To learn more about Kauffman’s thoughts on the proposed budget, go here.
